Jim Performs the Illusive Stoppie and Backie Uppie

A wheelie is where one accelerates quickly enough to lift the front wheel. A stoppie is the opposite - accomplished with the front brake and a refined sense of balance. Backing up is an incredible feat, developed for silly fun.

Skill and Precision in Urban BMX

Kids of all ages celebrate their athleticism and build confidence through play. BMX is a sport that emphasizes play over competition. Devotees practice tricks for the pleasure of accomplishment. Note that this fellow leaps up three stairs without touching them, then lands backwards and pedals backwards until he wants to turn around.

A Classic Dirt Rhythm Section

Rama demonstrates a rhythm section, which is the mainstay of a dirt BMX park. Like a diving board, BMX jumps provided airtime to do tricks. Endless hours of practice lead to a sense of focus and discipline that spills over into other endeavors. Like with skate parks, the practice takes place in the comfort of a supportive community. BMX riders build their own parks, developing additional skills and responsibilities

Things to be Proud of…

Wouldn't you be proud if this was your 14 year old? During Cascade Bicycle Club's 2005 Bicycle Expo this young RAD Racer borrowed a brand new bike from the bike corral and took it though its paces. Urban Sparks is proud to have built this temporary facility as a step in building the vision of Bicycle Skills Parks.
